Meet the instructor
Gabrielle Maser
Bio- Gabrielle Maser, Mixologist, Bar Manager
Craft bartender Gabrielle Maser has over twenty years of experience designing, opening and working in restaurants here in Hawaii and on the West Coast, combined with a BA in Interior Design from Chaminade University. After working in some of the most amazing restaurants the west has to offer, Gabrielle trained and learned under Honolulu’s own master cocktail creator Christian Self of Bevy, designing and concocting unique, balanced beautiful cocktails.
Originally from the Mill Valley, California, Gabrielle grew up
near awe-inspiring nature, great wine, great food and personally watched the cocktail renaissance blossom. After more then ten years behind the bar, sitting at a bar, she borrowed a book of mixology and it was all over from there. Learning and knowing your ingredients paired with a never-ending growing collection of spices and flavors and then figuring out how it all goes together is what make the job more like being a creative, skilled chef. Bevy, one of the first proper cocktail bars in Honolulu, was the perfect think tank to continue to learn about the production of alcohol as well as all the history and stories that go in to each bottle, each ancient cordial.
After three years honing her skills at Bevy, taking over the beverage program at The Pacific Club was the perfect opportunity to take everything learned over the years and combine Miss Maser’s unique talents. Talents which include her beliefs in respect of place, Hawaiian history and culture, sustainability, the journey of always learning and always teaching the next generation while combining it all with service oriented fabulous cocktails and creating life long friendships.
During her time running the bar program at The Pacific Club, Gabrielle has also invested many hours giving back with the United States Bartending Guild. She strongly believes putting in the time, sitting in on the council and helping arrange and execute events here in Honolulu helps greatly to further support the local
bartending culture. This year Gabrielle has been was sponsored to join Les Dames d’Escoffier and is now a member.
From designing bars to rocking out a busy service well, hosting beer pairings to bartending competitions, Gabrielle continues to use her passion for matching the perfect cocktail with the perfect person as well as her respect for the environment by leading the charge against single use plastic and switching to paper or metal based straws.
According to Gabrielle, “Each drink should have a beginning, a middle and an end. A balance between sweet and tart, bitter and sour, and each drinks perfect place on those spectrums is to the discretion of the imbiber. The craft bartenders challenge then becomes to make the perfect drink for the person sitting in front of you. And that is when the magic happens.”
